Margarita and Martin opened Viva Brazil! in 2008. While working in the busiest clean room in the largest hospital in the south in the early 2000s, Margarita’s aunt owned the leading Brazilian waxing boutique in Atlanta. It was there that Margarita started working as an esthetician herself and learned the age–old Brazilian waxing techniques first hand. It’s also where she met Martin, who had received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from France and was working as a research scientist.
With Peruvian, Spanish and Brazilian genes, Margarita has some of the most difficult hair to wax. After leaving Atlanta and traveling with Martin all over Europe to South Beach, she could never find a place that left her with the same results her Aunt’s boutique left her clients with. In fact, one place left her so red, irritated and unsatisfied she swore she would never go anywhere else again.
When the two moved to San Diego in 2008, it was no different. Margarita knew the area desperately needed a place that did waxing a better way.
Being a chemist, Martin experimented with different formulas of wax. He added softening ingredients and extracts like chamomile to organic green hard wax and after a few trials, they came up with a wax that removes less of the epidermis of skin than any other wax they could buy. In 2008, they open their first boutique waxing and skin care salon in Pacific Beach, California. Even at the height of the recession, customers were pouring in so fast they had to move to bigger location, only a year later. And now, another year later they are finishing up a renovation giving them more treatment rooms to accommodate their clientele.
Today, Viva Brazil! SD on historic Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach offers full service waxing and skin treatments.
